A Déclaration Préalable (DP) is a French urban planning authorization required for small construction, renovation, extension, or façade modification projects. It generally applies to extensions between 5 m² and 20 m², and up to 40 m² in urban zones covered by a local PLU regulation plan.
Unlike a building permit (Permis de Construire), a Déclaration Préalable does not legally require the signature of a registered architect from the French Ordre des Architectes. Property owners can submit the application themselves directly to the local mairie or through the official online platform.
