Why should I hollow my 3D model for Resin (SLA) printing?
Hollowing your model significantly reduces resin consumption (saving you money) and lowers overall print weight. More importantly, it decreases suction force on the FEP film during printing, which greatly reduces the risk of layer separation, warping, and print failure.
Will reducing the file size (decimation) lower the visual quality of my print?
No. I use smart mesh decimation techniques that reduce high-density polygon counts in flat or smooth areas while preserving fine edge details and sharp textures. Your slicer will load much faster, and the physical print quality will remain pristine.
Where will you place the drain holes for resin hollowing?
I strategically place drain/vent holes in flat, non-visible areas (such as the bottom of the base or hidden joints) so they don't spoil the surface detail. If you have a specific location preference, just let me know when submitting your requirements.
What wall thickness do you recommend for hollowing?
For most standard SLA/Resin prints, a wall thickness between 1.5mm and 2.5mm offers the best balance of strength and material savings. For larger models, I can reinforce internal walls or adjust thickness based on your specific printer and resin type.
Can you optimize files for FDM (Filament) printers as well?
Absolutely! For FDM printing, I focus on polygon reduction to prevent slicer lag, repairing non-manifold geometry, and ensuring wall geometry slices cleanly without paper-thin voids.
