I will copy edit your short story
I have always had my head in a book and now I want to help you develop yours
About this Gig
This gig is for people who've finished their developmental and line edits and need a professional copy edit for final revisions. Rather than focusing on the development and construction of the story itself, I'll focus on returning a copy of your work that's clean and ready for submission.
The margin notes will include distinctions between "mandatory" vs "optional" notes. Mandatory doesn't mean my word is final; it simply means it's required that you sit with the suggestion and see for yourself if that edit is necessary to improve the story. If you have a better way to fix an issue I've highlighted, I'll follow your lead! Authors will have the final say on all revisions.
This gig will include a pre-edit conversation as well as a copy edit letter that includes repeated suggestions and why they're made as well as minor line edits that severely impact flow (included for all packages).
Note: I will not accept AI-generated stories (intellectual property theft). During the pre-booking conversation, I will ask if your work is AI-generated; answer honestly. If at any point I detect significant AI generation, I will cancel the gig due to the violation of the gig's terms and conditions.

FAQ
Will you format my story?
This gig won't include any typographical formatting. I currently don't have access to manuscript software that allows that kind of formatting. In the event that changes, this gig will be amended with relevant price changes.
Will you help me rewrite individual scenes?
This is line editing, which includes scene construction, character POVs/dialogue, and story detail communication (show vs. tell). For those edits, please see my gigs for line edits. However, if the structure of a sentence or paragraph is impacting flow or understanding, small edits may be made.
How will you format the revisions?
I'll use Google Docs with the "Suggest Changes" setting turned on (similar to Microsoft Word's "Track Changes" tool). Using a 3-read strategy, I will check first for spelling and grammar, then comprehension, and lastly flow. Notes will be in the margins. All edits are subject to author approval.
What is a "style sheet"?
Style sheets are documents provided by copy editors that act as an index for the story. It includes details like world building rules, fictional words or story-specific spellings as well as relevant definitions, and miniature character profiles. It's used to maintain consistency in the story.
Can you do additional revisions?
You have the option to choose the add-on which includes extra 2 days of copy editing post review for a $15 fee.
