About this Gig
As a skilled, experienced & published author of children's picture books in both rhyme & prose, I can help improve the quality & marketability of your story. I have extensive experience in developmental editing & many of my clients & associates have secured deals or agents with texts I helped them to shape.
Using my considerable knowledge of the children's picture book industry, I will evaluate your story & give suggestions on where it could be improved, focusing on plot, pacing, structure, originality, character & use of language. I am accomplished at rhyme & can help with perfecting your metre & flow.
Choose from a basic general report, or one where I make comments & suggestions line by line on your document. Any actual changes to the story itself are left up to your discretion. I will be constructive with my comments, though please note feedback is very subjective & my industry knowledge is mostly UK based.
For proofreading - I am NOT a qualified copywriter so comments on spelling/grammar/punctuation will only be to the best of my knowledge.

FAQ
Will you check for punctuation and grammar?
Only to the best of my knowledge! I am not a qualified copy-editor and will only comment on spelling, punctuation, or grammatical issues that are obvious to me. While my knowledge of these things is pretty good, it may not be 100% to a publishable standard.
Do you translate to English?
No - I am a native English speaker and will only work with texts that are already in English
Will you look at stories longer than the stated maximum word count for each package?
Be advised that if your picture book fiction story is lengthier than 700 words then it is probably too long for today’s market! Please contact me for a bespoke quote if your text is longer than the maximum word count stated as I will charge extra for the additional time it will take me to critique.
Will you fact-check my story?
No. While I am open to looking at non-fiction texts, these are not my area of expertise and you may be better off working with someone else.
Will you write or rewrite my story for me?
No - I do not write or rewrite texts, though I will offer suggestions. I do have another gig for rhyme rewriting if you are looking to self-publish your work.
Do you work with PDF or other files?
No - I prefer to work with Word documents only so that I can highlight and make comments on the file line by line.
Can I send more than one story under the same package if their combined word count fits into this?
Sadly, no. My feedback is very in-depth as it is and looks at the story as a whole, so if I were to allow two or more stories under the one price it just wouldn't be worth my time.
Do I need to have the illustrations completed before sending my work to you?
No - in fact it is strongly advisable to get any developmental/editorial work done BEFORE commissioning the illustrations as it will be very difficult to then make certain changes or improvements to your story unless you are willing to potentially redo some of your illustrations.
Why is your delivery 7 days, and can you deliver sooner?
My delivery is set at 7 days simply as a precaution! Fiverr doesn't factor weekends into delivery times, and as most of my clients tend to submit on a Thursday or Friday, this means I often have to work on weekends when I'd rather spend time with my family! Usually I'll deliver well ahead of 7 days
Do you offer revisions?
Yes - I can take a second look at your revised story! I ask that you contact me direct for this when you are ready for it, and I'll set it up for you as a custom offer. Costs are: Another look at a Standard gig (up to 700 words) $35 Another look at a Premium gig (up to 1'000 words) $45
