I will design your plastic parts in solidworks ready for injection molding

About this gig
Need a plastic part designed for injection molding?
Plastic parts can run into costly problems when they are designed like prototypes instead of considering the molding process from the beginning. I will design your plastic component in SolidWorks with injection molding and Design for Manufacturing (DFM) principles in mind, helping you move from concept to a practical manufacturing-ready design.
WHAT I CAN BUILD INTO YOUR DESIGN
- Consistent wall thickness and smooth transitions
- Appropriate draft angles for molded surfaces
- Ribs, bosses, gussets, and fillets for strength and manufacturability
- Snap-fits, clips, screw bosses, and mounting features
- Undercut and parting-line considerations
- Proper clearances and component interfaces
- Geometry considerations based on your selected plastic material and molding requirements
WHAT YOU'LL RECEIVE
- Professional SolidWorks 3D part or assembly files
- STEP file for easy manufacturer/CAD exchange
- 2D technical drawing in PDF
- Organized CAD geometry

FAQ
Do you manufacture the part or make the mold?
No. I provide the 3D CAD files and technical drawings for your plastic part. Your injection-molding supplier handles tooling and production. If your molder provides design requirements or feedback, I can update the CAD accordingly.
Can you fix my existing 3D model for injection molding?
Yes. Send your STEP file or native CAD file and I can review it for common molding issues such as inconsistent wall thickness, insufficient draft, sink-risk areas, undercuts, and difficult transitions. Please include your target material and expected production quantity.
Which plastics can you design for?
I can work with common engineering and production plastics such as ABS, polypropylene (PP), polycarbonate (PC), nylon (PA), and POM. Material selection affects wall thickness, shrinkage, draft, and other design considerations, so please provide your intended resin when possible.
Do you guarantee the part will mold without problems?
No. Final molding performance depends on the material, mold design, tooling process, machine settings, and production conditions. I apply established injection-molding and DFM principles to reduce common design risks, while your tooling supplier remains responsible for final tooling validation.
Is mold-flow simulation included?
No. Standard packages focus on CAD development and injection-molding design considerations rather than mold-flow simulation. If you require a mold-flow analysis, contact me before ordering so we can determine the appropriate scope.
Do the technical drawings include tolerances?
Yes. Included drawings can contain key dimensions and appropriate general tolerances. If your project requires tighter dimensional requirements, specific fits, or detailed GD&T on critical features, please provide those requirements before ordering so I can confirm the scope.
Can you work with my injection molder or supplier?
Yes. You can provide your molder's design guidelines, tooling requirements, or feedback, and I can incorporate applicable requirements into the CAD design. Post-review changes can also be handled as revisions or additional work depending on their scope.
Can you design a plastic part from a physical sample?
Yes, depending on the complexity of the part and the available reference information. Clear photos, measurements, sketches, or a 3D scan can be used to reconstruct the geometry. For complex curved or highly detailed parts, send the available references first so I can assess the project accurately.
