FAQ
Can you start from just a hand sketch or a photo?
Yes. A sketch, a photo taken next to a ruler, or a similar product I can reference is enough. I confirm all critical dimensions with you in writing before modelling begins, so nothing is assumed or guessed.
What exactly is inside the DFM report?
A marked-up PDF showing every issue found and fixed: wall sections, rib-to-wall ratios, missing draft, sink and warp risk, gate and ejector access, and parting line placement. You can forward it directly to your supplier.
Can my manufacturer quote from your files without asking me questions?
That is the goal. You receive STEP, a dimensioned drawing with tolerances, and the DFM summary. Those are the three documents a tool shop asks for before quoting, so the back-and-forth lands on me, not you.
I already have a 3D model. Can you just review and fix it?
Yes, that is my DFM audit service. I check draft, wall sections and ejection, mark every problem on a PDF, then deliver a corrected model rebuilt with a clean, fully editable feature tree.
Do you design the actual mould, core and cavity?
Core and cavity splitting is available as an add-on. Most clients only need a mouldable part plus DFM, and I will tell you honestly if your project genuinely requires full tool design before you spend on it.
Which file formats will I receive?
Native SolidWorks or Fusion 360, plus STEP, IGES, STL and PDF drawings. If your supplier needs DXF, Parasolid or 3MF, tell me before delivery and I will include it at no extra cost.
Can you recommend the right plastic for my part?
Yes. I suggest a resin grade based on your load case, temperature range, finish and budget, and note shrinkage allowance. For regulated products I flag where food-safe or medical-grade certification is required.
Why do I need to contact you before ordering?
Because no two parts take the same time. A five-minute message lets me check your geometry, confirm the right package and send an accurate custom offer, so you never overpay or find the scope is short.
Will my product idea stay confidential?
Completely. I never display client work without written permission, and I am happy to sign your NDA before you send anything. Files are permanently deleted on request after delivery.
What do you need from me to begin?
Your sketches or reference images, key dimensions, intended manufacturing process, target material, and any part your design must mate with. Send these in a message and I will confirm scope before you order.
