I'm Mauro Lirussi, a children's book illustrator working here to collaborate with self-publishing authors.
Alongside my graphic designer partner, we offer a one stop shop for book creation:
- Human made work,
- Character design,
- Fully painted illustrations,
- Cover illustration,
- Book formatting and design for publication on Amazon KDP, IngramSpark, or the printer of your choice.
I value coming up with interesting and effective visual storytelling, so we can present your story in a meaningful way, and the designer will prepare all the files you need for publishing.
Our process:
- Contact me with your story and we'll discuss further details.
- Once we decide to move forward, I'll begin by working on pencil sketches.
- I'll proceed to hand-paint the illustrations.
- As you give the final approval on the art, the designer will start working on the ready-to-print PDF and the eBook files.
- We want to guarantee your book will be perfectly printed, so you'll have full support during the process.

I'm Mauro Lirussi and I'm working with self-publishing authors to create children's books.
I'm a published illustrator with over 15 years of experience, during which I've written some picture books and several other illustrated stories myself.
Moon Cow is my illustration and design studio for independent children's books. I work alongside graphic designer Araceli Tatarczuk to offer authors a one-stop-shop to get their book ready to publish.

FAQ
Do you offer samples?
Yes, but please message me before placing any order. A book is a big project, and we need to know if we’d work well together. After discussing and agreeing to move forward, you can order a pencil sketch or a colored page as a sample.
How do we start?
Send me a brief description of your book, excerpt and reference images, if any. The excerpt I ask for can be of 1 or 2 pages for a start. Mention how many illustrations you will need.
How long will it take my book to be illustrated?
It depends on the length of your book, the complexity of the illustrations, number of revisions and other commitments I could have at the moment. As a reference, a 32 page book can take about two months of full time work. I might not be able to accept rush orders.
Will my book be ready for self-publishing?
We deliver ready to print files and/or ready to upload eBook files. This covers text layout, typesetting, margins and bleed as per your specifications. We ask that you have the final script, copyright information and have decided a publishing mean before we start with the formatting.
Will you illustrate anything?
No. I won't illustrate things I wouldn't attach my name to, and I'm not comfortable doing visual depictions of scatological themes (which seem to have its place among picture books). We can discuss everything else, but I might still turn down certain offers.
Can you illustrate in any style?
No. Please go through my gallery and take a minute to view the portfolio presentation in order to evaluate the variety of styles and techniques I work with. I'm open to talk about this, but know that I don't do digital painting, and I won't copy someone else's style.
Can you pick up where my previous illustrator left / can you illustrate on top of my sketches?
No. Feel free to send me existing sketches and storyboards as a reference, but I'll probably give a lot of input and suggestions about the visual storytelling, and I'll only work with my own drawings and style.
What do you use to create an illustration?
I work mainly with traditional mediums and digital editing. Depending on the work, I might use acrylics, watercolor, gouache, color pencils, collage, or a combination of them. Please note that I don't do digital paintings.
Who own the copyright of the work ordered on Fiverr?
On Fiverr, all the rights of the delivered work are transferred to the customer, unless the seller has previously specified otherwise. We reserve the right of attribution and integrity of our work: the illustrator shall be credited and the art won't be manipulated.
