FAQ
What is the difference between copyediting and proofreading?
Copyediting focuses on language at sentence and word level to improve clarity. Proofreading focuses on smaller details such as punctuation and formatting. There is considerable overlap between these two stages.
What format do I submit my manuscipt in?
Microsoft Word or PDF file
What format will I receive my edited manuscipt in?
You will receive the same format you submitted. In Word, you will receive both an edited copy with Track[ed] Changes and a "clean copy" with all changes accepted. In PDF, you will receive a copy with Markup.
What is Track Changes, and how is it used?
Track Changes is a feature on MS Word that shows you every change an editor has made, along with comments where they've flagged something for review. You can right-click on a change to accept/reject.
What style guide do you use?
The Chicago Manual of Style.
What if my publisher has an additional style sheet/guide? Will you use it?
Absolutely! The publisher's style guide takes precedence, since it is formed based on its particular audience. Chicago style is used for all other considerations.
Will you change my voice, tone, and style?
No. At this point in your manuscript development, your writing should be fairly well reviewed and satisfactory to you. I edit with a light touch, only for language clarity and technical aspects.
