Hi, my name is Mick Turner. I am originally from the UK but now live in Taiwan. As a former aviation engineer and consultant, it was essential for me to deliver a professional, high-quality service on time, but my passion for the last 30 years has been music and sound engineering. What is sibilance?
Sibilance is a natural and necessary part of human speech but can be a distracting nuisance in microphone signals and audio mixes. Those sharp sounds that come from the pronunciation of 'S', 'Sh', 't', 'z', and 'th', but can be made worse by using poor quality microphones, or poor mic positioning.
What are plosives?
Plosives start when a singer or speaker pronounces certain consonants such as 'p', 'b', or 't'. The air from the vocalist strikes the microphone’s capsule, causing overwhelming air pressure. This results in either a windy sound or if it is strong enough, a popping sound.
