About this gig
I'm offering online cello lessons for 30 or 55 minutes for beginners up to advanced players. Lessons can focus on classical music or on improvisation and rock/pop/crossover music.
I have been teaching since 2010 and have experience with teens and kids as well as with adult learners of all ages. Anyone can start the cello at any time!
Some materials will be provided by me as necessary in the form of PDFs, but you are also welcome to take charge of your musical education and bring sheet music you would like to learn, or songs you like to listen to that we can transcribe for you to play.
Cello is an instrument that can be challenging to start, but thankfully all of the hard parts get explained within the first few lessons and from then on everything only gets easier!

Lessons can be held on a weekly basis, but I will ONLY schedule them based on mutual availability. I am an active performer in my home city and will not always be available every single week. Expect about 2-3 lessons per month on average, and some scheduling flexibility.

I am a classically trained cellist who specializes in improvisation and playing with singer-songwriters. I have been working in Berlin, Germany since 2012 with singer-songwriters, rock bands, jazz groups, and everything in between. I use Austrian Audio OC818 mics to capture the top quality sound of my Marco Pedrini cello from Cremona.

Do I need a cello? Where do I get one?
You must have a cello available for your lessons. I HIGHLY recommend renting before you buy. Most violin makers will offer rental instruments, or visit a local music store. If you purchase a cello, try to get a hardwood, handmade instrument. Feel free to ask me why :D
How does scheduling work? When are you available?
I tend to be available in the mornings and afternoons here Germany, Central European time. This means that if you live in the USA I won't be available for evening lessons in your time zone, as that is the middle of the night. Write to me for specific time requests and we can see what works.
What sort of training do you have? Qualifications?
I hold a Bachelor of Cello Performance from SUNY Potsdam in Potsdam, NY (USA) as well as a Master of Cello Performance degree from Temple University in Philadelphia, PA (USA). I have been teaching private lessons at schools or at home and online since 2010 to all age groups in all musical styles.
Can we do movie music? Pop songs? Jazz? Other non-classical music? Improv?
Yes, definitely!!!!! I love that stuff. I make my living improvising and performing with singer-songwriters, bands, and other non-classical groups in addition to some classical music engagements. I will use the classical training methods for technique training, but choice of music is up to you!
What platform do we use for lessons?
We will use Skype. If you cannot use Skype though, just get in touch and we can discuss if there are other options that would work for both of us.
