About this Gig
I find beta reading and editing to be an exceptional opportunity to not only help you hone your craft, but assist me in bettering my own as well.
All my gigs get full service feedback that includes much of if not all of the following:
- Critique of thematic elements
- Point of view and psychic distance consistency
- Questions about plot & fixing plot holes
- Encouraging more vivid language and imagery/figurative language
- Honing pace
- Advice and opinions from Publishers, Agents, or Pro Readers
- Line edits are a separate purchase
I hold a masters degrees in English, and two MFAs in Creative Writing, and Writing for Film & Television. I have short stories and flash fiction published. I have been an public school English and Theatre teacher for ten years, so my notes are thorough as though your my student. I have extensive writing experience with novel, short story, plays, screenplays, and creative nonfiction.
I'll read anything, but I love speculative fiction, existentialism, bildungsroman, coming-of-age, horror, thriller, and comedy. Partial to stories about physics and dogs.

Why are your prices this high?
I believe that my rate is comparable given my experience and time requirements. I have a full time job, academia, and my own writing to balance. I can provide fully detailed notes for 30k words in roughly 10 hours. Most real editors charge over $1000 for such a service. We can negotiate
Can you translate to other languages?
No, I am only fluent in English.
Can you rewrite my story?
Yes! I will ghostwrite for you. Please see additional services and send me a message.
Have you published anything?

Will you help me get published or find an agent?
The publishing industry is highly competitive and extremely difficult to break into. I can provide the best advice to help you navigate the market and create a portfolio you're proud of, and I can prepare you for the difficult road ahead of you.
So-and-so only charged $60 for a novel with a 100k word count - again... why are your prices so high?
It might be that Fiverr has many fake profiles that sometimes use AI software like ChatGPT to provide basic feedback to your story. I read every word and give ample notes like as if you're my student - and I'm a tough grader. I provide academic constructive criticism to get you on the right path.
Do you negotiate?
Depends. If you have a specific request in mind, I'm open to negotiation, but my basic services are generally in the package price points. Just ask!

What general recommendations might you have?
Read a ton of books that are in your interest fields and many that perhaps aren't. Write every day. Set time aside for yourself, like as if you're going to the gym. Read and study American grammar and craft books. Everyone should read "How Fiction Works" by James Wood.
