FAQ
What instruments can you teach?
I teach acoustic and electric guitar, slide guitar, Pedal Steel, mandolin, banjo, and other string instruments. I can also help with broader musicianship, including theory, harmony, improvisation, songwriting, composition and arrangement as well as recording, mixing and music production.
Do you teach beginners?
Absolutely. I work with complete beginners as well as intermediate and advanced musicians. Lessons are adapted to your current level and musical goals.
What styles of music can you teach?
My professional experience covers many genres, including Pop, Rock, Country, Indie, Hip-Hop, Electronic, Metal, Alternative, Blues, and Roots music. We can focus on the styles you are most interested in.
Can we work on my own songs or compositions?
Yes. You can bring your own songs, compositions, arrangements, riffs, recordings, or musical ideas. We can develop them together and explore harmony, melody, structure, arrangement, and instrumentation.
Can you help me with music theory?
Yes. I teach theory in a practical way, connecting concepts directly to your instrument and the music you want to play or create. Topics can include chords, scales, harmony, rhythm, modes, ear training, and analysis.
Can I send you a song or recording before the lesson?
Yes. If you have a specific song, recording, performance, or musical problem you'd like to work on, you can provide it so we can make the lesson focused and productive.
Are the lessons suitable for advanced musicians?
Definitely. Advanced sessions can explore improvisation, harmony, arranging, composition, ear training, phrasing, performance, multi-instrumental development, and developing your own musical voice.
What makes your lessons different?
I bring over 25 years of professional experience in performing, recording, and mixing, including work with Blue Man Group and Cirque du Soleil. My goal isn't simply to teach exercises, but to help you understand music and become a more confident, creative musician.
What languages can we use for the lessons?
I teach mostly in English. German is my native language, I am fluent in English, and I speak conversational Dutch. You can choose whichever language makes you most comfortable and helps you learn most effectively.
