Mastering is the final step in producing music for professional consumption. The mastering engineer uses their ears abilities, equipment, and experience to subtly enhance the mixed track using different techniques designed to serve the music. The experience here is the key!

The mastering engineer typically will balance out the song's frequency spectrum so that it isn't too bass-heavy or too top-heavy while removing unwanted frequencies and give it a polished radio crispness. Sometimes a dose of subtle compression can add a bouncy radio vibe to the material.

Lately, music has been getting louder and louder. Everyone wants their mix to be as loud as possible. The reality is that almost all online spots (Spotify, iTunes, Youtube, etc) all use normalization, a type of compression that makes everything the same level. Keep it lower and enjoy the dynamics.

If your song is longer than 8 minutes we need to create a custom gig. Because I do everything in real-time using analog gear it takes a lot longer. Long songs take more time, this gig assumes a song that's 8 minutes long or shorter. Let me know if you have any questions before you start a gig.

I recommend hi-resolution formats such as WAV or AIFF files at 24-Bit/44.1KHz (or higher sampling rates). Compressed file formats such as MP3, AAC, or WMA files are not recommended as a source for mastering.

It is recommended that processes such as compression, limiting, maximizing, etc. are not applied to the stereo bus during mixdown. A master that arrives already compressed and/or limited greatly reduces the ability of the mastering engineer to deliver the best sounding audio master possible.
