Proofreading is checking for correct spelling & grammar. Copy editing is more checking that the right words in context are used, & punctuation is correct. Line editing looks at how the language is used in the sentence & paragraph-level & checking the flow of sentences.

I correct awkward phrasing when I edit, but rewriting is a different project/gig because with a rewrite the document will have more of my voice and not really yours any longer.
