FAQ
Can you upgrade my old Shopify Hydrogen or Remix storefront to Hydrogen 2026-10?
Yes, where the project is compatible. The migration involves reviewing dependencies, routing, request handlers, Storefront API clients, cart functions and customer-account flows. Shopify's migration guidance confirms existing storefronts don't have to be upgraded immediately.
Can I use the new Shopify Hydrogen with an existing Next.js website without rebuilding everything?
The 2026-10 library supports integration into an existing JavaScript framework. Whether your actual site can retain its current components and routing depends on its architecture, dependencies and customizations.
Why does my Shopify headless cart lose products or fail when customers reach checkout?
Possible causes include incorrect cart persistence, outdated commerce APIs, variant IDs, cart mutations, session handling and checkout redirects. The actual cause requires examining requests, responses and session behavior.
Can you add Shop Pay to a custom Next.js or Hydrogen product page?
Where supported by the store configuration, Hydrogen provides Shop Pay button functionality for product pages and carts. Integration must follow the supported checkout routing and Shop Pay requirements.
Will my Shopify apps still work if I migrate to a headless React storefront?
Not automatically. Apps using theme blocks, app embeds or Liquid-dependent frontend scripts may require a different integration approach. Compatibility should be reviewed app by app before migration.
Can Shopify customers still log in and see orders on a headless storefront?
Shopify's Customer Account API supports customer-account functionality, but an existing app may need changes to its authentication and session handling. Access rules and supported customer experiences must be validated.
Can I keep my existing Shopify SEO rankings when moving from Liquid to Hydrogen?
Existing URLs, canonical tags, structured data, server rendering, internal links and redirects should be considered in the migration plan. Preserving these elements can reduce migration risk, but retaining the same rankings cannot be guaranteed.
How will I edit homepage banners and landing pages after moving to headless Shopify?
Shopify remains available for products, collections and merchant data. Other content may need metafields, metaobjects, Shopify Pages or a suitable CMS with editable components and a preview workflow.
Do I need Shopify Plus or Oxygen to use Hydrogen with Next.js?
Hydrogen's current documentation supports Next.js deployment on Vercel and React Router deployment on Oxygen, as well as integration with other server-rendered JavaScript frameworks. Shopify Plus is not inherently required for every headless storefront.
Can you connect Shopify to AWS S3 or add custom file uploads to my storefront?
Potentially, as separately scoped development. A secure implementation normally requires an authorization flow, storage permissions, validation and safe file handling. It is not automatically included in a normal headless storefront setup.
