Got a children's picture book in development but need help getting it from a draft to a cherished childhood memory? I can help. I've edited more than 100 children's picture books, including for New York Times best-selling authors Douglas Preston and Mariame Kaba.
After you accept my custom offer, I will provide you with a comprehensive editing package for your book, including three rounds of editing and proofreading. Note: Books in rhyme incur a higher fee.
The process:
- Developmental and line editing - The heaviest editing round. Developmental feedback will be provided as needed, along with editing for voice and rhythm.
- Line and copyediting - A round of editing that focuses on polishing and making sure your sentences are separated into sections easily transmissible to the book's illustrated pages.
- Proofreading - The final check. I will read your book aloud and check for minor errors.
If you would like proofreading on your book's final pages, this can be done after illustration and layout have been completed.
Delivery style preference
Please inform the freelancer of any preferences or concerns regarding the use of AI tools in the completion and/or delivery of your order.

Yes. As the author, it can be difficult to see where to trim down the word count. I am happy to help get this down to a more manageable count.
Do you require illustrations to edit the book?
No, though illustrations, mockups, or descriptions are always helpful to provide context.
How many children's picture books have you edited?
As of August 2021, I have edited more than 50 children's picture books, including for a New York Times bestselling author.
What file type do you require?
All manuscripts must be submitted as Microsoft Word documents. PDFs, ebooks, graphical images, Google Docs, and InDesign files will not be accepted.
