I will help you research your ancestors
About this Gig
Using my research skills and subscriptions to various genealogy sites, I will attempt to identify your ancestor in various online records that are available.
Please note that it is not always possible to identify the correct person or any records, but the more information you can provide, the better the chances of finding information. In some cases, records might not be available depending on the country of origin and the time period involved. If I cannot find information about the individual in question, I will contact you to discuss how to proceed.
In the basic package, I will search a range of sources for any records relating to your ancestor (including birth, marriage, death information where found).
In the standard package, I will include a wider search (census records, newspapers, electoral rolls, military, etc) and summarise the findings in the form of a timeline (including details of any children they were found to have).
In the premium package, I will provide a life story document including all information known about your ancestor with wider historic context and images (this might be maps or photos of places lived, or events relating to the individual's life).
FAQ
What information to you need to start your search?
The more information you can give about the ancestor and their family, the better the result. Names, approximate dates of birth/death, places lived, family members, etc. If you already know anything about this person, let me know, even if it is just a rumoured country of origin or nickname!
What sites and tools do you use to search
I have subscriptions/accounts across many geneaology websites (Ancestry, My Heritage, Find My Past, Family Search, etc), giving access to a wide range of records. I am also experienced in searching newspaper records, military records and various country specific repositories.
Why can't you always find the ancestor?
Sometimes I might just not have enough information to go on, or the records might not be available. Depending on the country, records might be locked for living people or for a period of time (e.g. 100 years). Often it can be easier to find information for long-dead ancestors than recent relatives
Can I use this service to my parents or other close relatives?
While I can sometimes find information on living or recently living people, this is often limited due to data protection rules (which vary by country). Feel free to contact me to discuss whether I can help in your case.
I've already researched this ancestor with no success, can you help?
Possibly, I am experienced in finding records that others miss (e.g due to transcription errors) and I always do my own research and validate records at the source (I don't just follow other people's family trees or suggestions or hints provided by genealogy platforms).
What happens if you can't find the ancestor?
Sometimes I can narrow it down to a few options, which I will present to you. Often this triggers a memory or clue that can help us identify the right parents. If there is really no point looking (insufficient information or records unavailable), I will let you know we can discuss how to proceed.
