Both the relationship between Ren/Cage and the pace of the journey itself need to be stretched juuuuuuust a tish. It's rather a quick read for its length, and that tells me that there is room to grow. I think in particular, the transition into the end is very rapid, moving from a pretty unhurried middle of the story to a succinct end. The conclusion doesn't hit the way we want it to because the slow buildup and the speed at which we collide with it are disorienting."
