I will do dish for you

When you say you're going to do the dishes do you mean just washing dishes and that's it? Or does it also entail tidying up the kitchen on the whole? My husband and I are debating this. I say, if someone says they're going to do the dishes they need to wipe down the counters as well. He thinks that cleaning anything besides the dishes is a whole separate chore and whoever does the dishes shouldn't have to also tidy the kitchen.
