About this Gig
I will review your rulebook based on at least five scientific disciplines:
- comprehension theory,
- technical communication,
- plain language,
- usability and accessibility,
- and game and rulebook design.
My perspective and edits are grounded in theory, and will be different than what you might expect from a rulebook editor who bases their expertise on past rulebook practice. I specialise in making your rulebook as pleasant, readable and accessible as possible for Everyone, not just for the people familiar with the rulebook genre.
Based on the package you choose I will:
- read, provide comments and suggest minor edits
- read, provide comments, and perform minor and intermediate edits
- read, provide comments, and do a full rewrite
Versions of a rulebook I will accept per package:
- Basic: a cohesive rulebook, either formatted or unformatted
- Intermediate: a cohesive rulebook, either formatted or unformatted, in editable format
- Pro: a list of rules is or a rulebook in editable format
I will not DESIGN your rulebook, I will however give tips for how to design accessibly, and include a review of the design (if applicable) in all packages.

What is the additional value of your "scientific" editing and proofreading?
My focus lies in creating readable and accessible rulebooks for a broader population than just the people who are already familiar with board games. I take on an "outsider" perspective and will prevent you from falling for advice that is only based on tradition, and not grounded in research.
Do you translate rulebooks as well?
Yes, I translate rulebooks from Dutch to English and from English to Dutch. Please refer to my other listings if this is something you're interested in :)
Does your full rewrite include a (re)design of the rulebook
No. I will not (re)design the rulebook. I will however give tips for how to design accessibly, and include a review of the design (if applicable) in all packages.
