I would suggest a developmental edit to any first-time book writer OR if you have beta readers who give comments about the pacing of your book feeling off, the character motivations not aligning, large inconsistencies or plot holes, or any other feedback that relates to large sections of the book.

A developmental edit seeks to strengthen plot, character arcs, pacing, and things that impact large sections of a book. Think of it as baking and stacking the layers of a cake on top of each other.

A line-level edit looks to strengthen sentence structure, voice, tone, and word choice. Think of it as putting the frosting and decoration on an otherwise completed cake.

It includes everything that a line-level and developmental edit would include, plus in-line comments & reader predictions. In this process I will first give you developmental edits, you'll revise until you're happy with it, then I'll read the book again and give line-level edits.

An edit letter highlights overall thoughts on a manuscript and includes both what is working well and what could use improvement. It is where I'll point out broad themes, speak about larger plot adjustments, and reference back to line-level comments I made in the draft.

A developmental book edit costs an average of $.032 per word ($3200 per $100,000 words). Because I believe in making book editing more affordable to new, indie & self-published authors, I charge less than $.02 per word ($1900 per 100,000 words).
