What's the difference between Replication and High Availability (Always On)?
Replication is for creating readable copies of your data on another server, perfect for offloading reporting and queries without slowing down your main application. High Availability is for automatic failover. If your primary server fails, a secondary server automatically takes over in seconds
Do I need SQL Server Enterprise Edition for this service?-01
For Transactional Replication, SQL Server Standard Edition is generally sufficient.
Do I need SQL Server Enterprise Edition for this service?-02
For Always On Availability Groups, SQL Server Enterprise Edition is required for the full feature set. SQL Server 2016 (and newer) Standard Edition does offer Basic Availability Groups, which has some limitations. We can discuss your version and needs to find the right solution.
What information and access will you need from me?
To perform the work, I will need secure remote access (such as RDP or a company VPN) to the relevant servers with administrator privileges on both Windows and SQL Server. You must ensure you have all the necessary server and software licenses in place before we begin.
Will my application experience downtime during the setup?
My process is designed to minimize downtime. The majority of the configuration is done while your system is live. A very brief outage (typically just seconds to a minute) is only required at the very end to perform the final cutover. This will be scheduled with you during a low-traffic window.
