Same project, renamed twice due to branding changes. OpenClaw is the current name. I install the latest stable version regardless of what you call it.
Do I need to buy a license or pay for OpenClaw?
OpenClaw is free and open-source. You only pay for API usage. Anthropic or OpenAI typically costs $10–$70/month depending on volume. If you use a local LLM like Ollama it is completely free.
Do I need an API key?
Only if you use a cloud model like OpenAI, Claude, or Gemini. If you want to run fully local with Ollama or LM Studio, no API key is needed at all.
How does the communication channel connection work?
