FAQ
What file should I send for mastering?
Please send your final approved stereo mix as a WAV file, ideally 24-bit or 32-bit float at the native sample rate. Leave limiting off where possible and avoid unnecessary clipping.
How much headroom should I leave?
You do not need to target a specific number. Just make sure the mix is not clipping and avoid heavy limiting on the master bus. A clean, dynamic mix is more important than leaving an arbitrary amount of headroom.
Will my master be ready for Spotify, Apple Music and other DSPs?
Yes. The standard master is prepared for digital distribution and streaming platforms, with appropriate loudness, dynamics, tonal balance and technical QC.
Can you provide Apple Digital Masters-ready files?
Yes, where the supplied source meets the required technical specifications. I can provide appropriately prepared high-resolution masters suitable for Apple Digital Masters workflows.
Can you prepare a CD master or DDP image?
Yes. CD-ready masters and DDP images are available as an extra. DDP is most appropriate for complete EP or album programmes and can include sequencing, spacing, CD-Text and supplied ISRC metadata.
Can you prepare a separate master for vinyl?
Yes. I offer dedicated vinyl pre-masters with appropriate headroom, dynamics and format considerations. For full albums or unusual side lengths, please contact me before ordering.
What is stem mastering?
Stem mastering gives me separate groups such as drums, bass, guitars and vocals rather than one stereo mix. This allows greater control over balance, tone and dynamics without going back to a full multitrack mix.
What counts as a revision?
A revision covers reasonable changes to the master, such as level, tonal balance or dynamics. It does not include substantial changes to the underlying mix or replacing the source with a significantly different production.
Can you master a full EP or album?
Yes. For multi-song projects, please contact me before ordering. I can create a custom offer and ensure consistent loudness, tone, sequencing and overall cohesion across the release.
Can mastering fix a poor mix?
Mastering can improve balance, dynamics, translation and overall impact, but it cannot fully repair major mix problems. If I hear something that should be addressed at mix stage first, I will let you know before proceeding.
