Have you written a first draft of a short story or a novel? Do you feel the task is too big to manage? Are you not sure where to start?

Alpha readings help identify compelling elements, and gives advice and suggestions on how to develop these. The feedback may also say what is not working, but crucially why that is the case. Further development of something in an early draft could make that character or plot point the heart of the story.

No story is too messy for an Alpha Read.

After writing a first draft, inevitably some character development and subplots are discovered during the writing process. There comes a point where you need to question what is essential for your story? Do you need more development in one area, and perhaps less backstory told on the page?

Your feedback will be in-document comments, along with a page of detailed notes focused on writing elements such as character, plot, dialogue and pacing.

I take care to offer feedback that motivates you to write. The aim is always you writing the best version of your story.

I never use AI in my writing or editing process.
