I will read your manuscript and provide feedback from the perspective of an editor, publisher and reader.
I will provide an overview of the strengths and weaknesses of the story, characters, arcs, and plot. In so doing, I will offer constructive critiques and suggestions for improvement and how to move the story forward.
I have a Certificate in Publishing and I worked in the Editorial department at Penguin Random House of Canada. I have also taken creative writing courses at UCLA. Writing and storytelling is my passion, and I want to help you bring your vision to light.
I will provide a comprehensive reader's report, which includes strengths and weaknesses (as stated above), as well as its viability for publication and how to move forward with the manuscript. If necessary, I will edit in track changes to demonstrate a point.

What is a Developmental Editor?
The Developmental Editor is the editor who works with the author from the beginning to production. The DE focuses on overall structure and content, keeping the big picture in focus to identify what does and does not work. This editor advocates for the author from the beginning!
Is this a copyedit and proofread?
Not at this stage. However, I will still provide a focus on grammar, spelling and syntax.
What can I expect from this process?
I perform an initial read-through of the manuscript while taking notes, which allows me to understand the big picture and story arc. I then do a second read-through where I take detailed notes and give feedback. Once finished, I provide a reader's report to the author.
When to contact a Developmental Editor?
Ideally, the first draft of your manuscript should be complete. However, you may be at a point where you don't know if a plot-line is going somewhere, or whether a character is moving the story forward. This is an excellent time to find out and have your story reviewed by a Developmental Editor.
Will my work be kept confidential?
Absolutely. I do not discuss my clients' projects with anyone other than my client.
