Developmental editing is often referred to as 'big picture editing'. This is usually the first type of editing a manuscript undergoes - it is where the editor looks at the plot, characters, theme, perspective/POV, author voice, and worldbuilding. It is not a proofread or a copy-edit. A developmental edit will include in-line comments throughout the document with suggestions, thoughts, and ideas. These comments will then be actioned by the author, not the editor.* If you have any questions about your project, or whether developmental editing is right for you, please reach out and we can discuss it further.
