I'm just going to come out and say it. When it comes to Beta Reading, I'm a beginner, and that's a good thing! Beta Readers are not professional editors. They are a critical test audience for your writing, meant to represent the average reader. Both your fiction and non-fiction is welcome!
My background is a Master's degree in philosophy, which means I'm quite adept at analysing and criticising anything in general. I'm a perfectionist by nature and can point out even the smallest thing. That being said, philosophy teaches you to get to the heart of anything and figure out what defines it. I will try to dissect the substance of your novel without getting bogged down by the smaller things. Consider me very much a critical and picky reader above all else. A test audience for you. I will definitely give lots notes and feedback as well, inline and otherwise.
And of course, I like reading! My favourites include "Let the Right One in" by John Ajvide Lindqvist, "The Collector" by John Fowles, "Grapes of Wrath" by Steinbeck, "Tales of Earth Sea" by Ursula le Guin and "The Watchers" by A.M. Shine.

Excellent review of a difficult project to read. I had the job of writing a project outside of what I normally do. Emile was able to identify several points for me to think about during my re-writing process. I was feeling stuck, but now I feel energized to finish my project. I recommend his services as a beta reader!

He was just unbelievable. He left tons of comments, plucked many spelling/grammar mistakes. He read carefully through my novel and pointed out issues with pacing, character development, world building and more. He was very direct, and offered books that would help me better my writing skills. I’m very grateful for being able to work with him.
