Do you need direct database access?
Preferable, but not always. I can give you queries to extract configuration metrics. I can also work with your slow query logs and schema definitions. For deeper analysis, at least read-only access is preferable, if not full access.
Can you optimize Amazon RDS or cloud-hosted MySQL?
Yes. Most of my MySQL experience has been with cloud-hosted databases, especially AWS RDS and Aurora. I have also helped clients scale back down from Aurora to RDS, reducing operating expense.
Will you make changes directly on production?
I provide findings and recommendations. If we agree, either of us can make the required changes. Production changes should be reviewed, tested, and applied carefully.
Can you guarantee a specific speed improvement?
One cannot guarantee any levels of improvement. I will identify the most likely bottlenecks and recommend practical changes based on evidence. If the database is already optimised for the given CPU/RAM config, I will also mention why I feel so.
What should I send before ordering?
Describe the performance problem, MySQL version, hosting environment, slow queries if known, table/index definitions, and any monitoring metrics you have.
