I will proofread your speculative fiction story

Even if your story isn't speculative fiction, I'm happy to work with you. A story is a story, after all. Speculative fiction is simply what I love to read and write personally, so I can give more in depth advice and critique due to my familiarity with the genre.

The time depends on the length of the piece. If you want an accurate timeframe, feel free to message me with the details of your story and I'll get back to you as soon as possible.

I do! I offer a sample edit of the first 10 pages of your story, which is usually enough for you to get a sense of my editing style and if it’s a good match for your writing. (For developmental edits, the sample will not include any large-scale, structural edits, as it is too small of a sample).

A proofread will look at sentence-level details such as grammar, phrasing, style and voice consistency, spelling, and punctuation. For instance, catching rogue commas, duplicated words, or fixing dialogue quotations. This isn’t for restructuring paragraphs or rewriting sentences.

A proofread is not for layout or design. So it won’t be formatting chapters, indents, page layout, or page numbers. (If you would like formatting, message me and we can work out a custom quote, but this would be done after the entire proofread is completed.)

A rule of thumb is, if you have to move sentences around, then you should do a copyedit. If you’re just editing small parts of each sentence, but leaving the structure as is, then a proofread is perfect.

This is used in both a proofread and a copyedit to layout the grammar and style-choices before editing begins to ensure everything is consistent. If you would like to see a copy of the style sheet, message me and I can send it over!

Of course! After you have reviewed my edits, you are more than welcome to respond with follow-up questions and I will do my best to answer. I may discuss an hourly fee ONLY if the questions become too involved or require revisits to the text or any edits to any new rewrites of the text.
