I will reverse engineer your file format and recover your data
About this Gig
Do you have files that no program can open anymore? Data from discontinued software, an old device, a game, a machine at work? The data is still in there. It just needs someone who can read it.
Reverse engineering file formats is what I do. I look at the raw bytes, work out the structure and write you a working parser that converts your files into something usable, CSV, Excel, JSON or plain text. You also get documentation of the format, so you finally know what was inside your files all along.
I have done this for old database files, custom export formats, save games, measurement data from lab equipment and more. If the data physically exists in the file, I can usually get it out.
What you get:
- A working parser in Python or C++, your choice
- Your files converted into a usable format
- Documentation of the format structure
- Full rights to everything delivered
One important note: message me first and send two or three example files. I will take a free look and tell you what is inside and whether I can extract it. Only then do you order.
FAQ
What can you do with my files?
I analyze the raw structure of the file, document it, and write a parser that converts it into a readable format like CSV, Excel or JSON.
What if my files are encrypted?
Weak or custom encryption that was meant to protect the format, not the user, can usually be reverse engineered. Send me samples and I will tell you before you order.
Is this confidential?
Yes. Your files stay private and are deleted after delivery unless you want them kept. I can sign an NDA if your project needs one.
Can you extract data from very old software formats?
That is exactly my specialty. Format age does not matter, the data just needs to exist in the file.
Do you work with large archives, hundreds of files?
Yes. The premium package includes a batch tool so your whole archive can be converted automatically instead of one file at a time.
