FAQ
What types of manuscripts do you beta read?
I beta read memoirs, autobiographies, personal narratives, life stories, family histories, legacy stories, inspirational memoirs, and other nonfiction manuscripts.
What will you look for during a memoir beta read?
I focus on reader experience, including pacing, narrative flow, structure, emotional impact, clarity, engagement, repetition, timeline consistency, relationships, and areas that may need revision.
Will I receive comments directly on my manuscript?
Yes. Inline manuscript comments are included for all applicable packages, along with a detailed beta reader feedback report and actionable revision suggestions.
Is memoir beta reading the same as developmental editing?
No. Beta reading focuses on how your memoir feels and reads from a reader’s perspective. Developmental editing takes a deeper look at story structure, narrative arc, organization, and overall manuscript development.
Can you beta read an autobiography or life story instead of a memoir?
Absolutely. I welcome autobiographies, life stories, personal histories, family memoirs, and other personal nonfiction projects.
Can you beta read an unfinished memoir?
Yes, depending on the project. Send me what you have, and I can let you know whether a beta read is the right service for your current manuscript.
Do you use AI to read or provide my beta feedback?
No. Your manuscript is personally read and evaluated from a real reader’s perspective. My feedback is based on my reading experience and professional judgment.
Is the first 5,000-word copy edit really free?
Yes! When you order this gig, I’ll provide a complimentary copy edit of the first 5,000 words of your manuscript as part of the offer.
