About this Gig

I am a professional writer and editor with 30+ years of experience in various media, including books, magazine and newspaper articles, annual reports, technical manuals, and internet copy. I will meticulously check your document for spelling and punctuation errors using either American or British standards, and I will lightly copy-edit the text. What do I mean by copy-editing? I will suggest changes to improve the clarity and flow of your text, including issues of word choice and sentence structure, but I work with a light hand to leave your distinctive voice and tone untouched.
A couple of notes on my working style: I make two complete passes through every document I edit. I work in Microsoft Word, and unless you request otherwise, I track changes.

FAQ
Do you just run the text through a spell-check/grammar-check software?
Absolutely NOT! Software does not distinguish between palate, pallet and palette. I go through every document twice, and almost invariably I catch things on the second pass that I missed on the first. Can I turn around 20,000 words in 24 hours? Probably not. And that's a good thing. Trust me!
What's the difference between US and UK usage?
Spelling is the most obvious difference: color vs colour, etc. There are also different punctuation and vocabulary conventions. If you need one or the other, please let me know that.
What if English is my second language?
As long as I can discern what you are trying to say, I'm happy to work with you to polish your writing. If the text needs extensive work—several corrections in each sentence, for example—I will not be able to do the work at my base rate, but I will give you the most reasonable price possible.
It's going to take you how long?!
Proofreading is detail-oriented work. I am a perfectionist, and I won't sacrifice accuracy to haste. I tend to overestimate the turnaround time to avoid rushing to meet the deadline. That said, I try to turn all work around as rapidly as I can, and for short documents, it's often within 24 hours.
Do you do all your work yourself?
Absolutely. I do not outsource my work to anyone, on Fiverr or elsewhere.
Can you rewrite my essay for me?
Sorry, but no. I am happy to proofread academic writing, to correct the spelling, punctuation, and grammar errors that you may have overlooked, but more intensive revision constitutes an ethical breach.
Hold on... why is my custom offer not at your base rate?
I base my custom offers on the level of correction your document requires, so yes—if every sentence needs one or more tweaks, I'll charge a higher rate for the project.
