Hi. My name is Susanne. As an avid reader with a passion for stories, I go through about two books a week. While mostly I have read literary fiction and the classics, in recent years I have leaned more towards romance and genre fiction. I have spent my life working in the art world in the United States and am currently doing my masters in art history in Sweden.
My beta reading process has two steps.
1. A straight read, like I would read any book.
2. A detailed read with comments inserted throughout. Here, I focus on parts where I found the writing confusing, scenes taking too long, ending too soon, and anything causing me to read back or break from the story. I also look out for:
- Character likeability, building, development, and consistency
- Action and scene plausibility, continuity
- Plot and pacing
- World-building
- Tone and point of view consistency
- Light language: syntax, spelling, and word choice
