I will translate technical and software texts between german and english
Software engineer, 20 years experience in data, research and translation
About this Gig
I am a software engineer with 20 years in the field and a native German speaker. I translate the kind of text where one wrong word costs somebody an afternoon: software interfaces, documentation, manuals, specifications, release notes and technical websites.
WHAT YOU GET
- A translation that reads naturally in the target language, not a word-for-word copy
- Consistent terminology throughout, and your glossary followed if you have one
- Placeholders, variables, markup and tags left intact, so the file still works when you drop it back in
- The same file format you sent me
WHY AN ENGINEER AND NOT A GENERALIST
Technical text is full of words with two meanings. Commit, thread, handle, instance: each has an everyday meaning and a precise technical one, and picking the wrong one quietly breaks the sentence for the person who has to use it. I have written the kind of software these texts describe, so I know which meaning is meant.
WHAT I NEED FROM YOU
The text, the direction, and who reads it: end users, developers, or both. A glossary or an earlier translation helps.
Marketing copy that has to sell rather than explain is not my strength. Send it and I will say so.

FAQ
Which direction do you translate?
Both: German to English and English to German. German is my native language, English I use daily in technical work.
Will my placeholders and tags survive?
Yes. Variables, placeholders, markup and tags stay untouched. Tell me the format (JSON, XML, PO, Markdown, DOCX, HTML) and you get it back working.
We already use certain terms internally. Can you keep them?
Send your glossary or an earlier translation and I follow it. If you have none, I keep the terms consistent and list the choices I made.
