Defederation keeps your current Microsoft tenant intact and simply removes GoDaddy's administrative lock. Migration moves data to a completely new tenant. Defederation is faster, safer, and preserves all Teams chats, share links, and user settings.
Will my business experience any email downtime?
No. Because your mailbox locations remain unchanged on Microsoft's servers, email flow is not interrupted during the defederation process.
What happens to my users' logins after defederation?
Since GoDaddy's login portal is removed, users will sign in directly via portal.office.com using new passwords that we set during the transition.
