Great question! Nope, Shopify optimization doesn't affect store functionality. Neither does it affect the user experience of the store. However, it would help you get your customer a better user experience and hence better sales. Of course, customers don't have time, and they need a quick decision.
Does your service improve in Shopify speed and optimization for mobile as well?
Yip, my optimization techniques will improve Shopify website speed for all the devices, i.e., Mobile, Desktop, Tablet, etc. However, Shopify platform has a limitation in the mobile network, ~65-70 is max someone could get with given conditions. Sometimes PageSpeed index doesn't guarantee in mobile.

Great question. There are several ways to test and see the performance. I'd recommend Google PageSpeed as you know, Google is king in search engines. You can check out PageSpeed Index to test your Shopify store speed. There are other tools like Pingdom, GTmetrix, etc you can explore more. -:)
Will, my Shopify store performance testing, covered via GTmetrix?
Well, I work in PageSpeed only. However, GTmetrix sometimes shows odd results for the Shopify framework. I will NOT be responsible for GTmetrix. But since PageSpeed covers most of the Google indexing, presuming GTmetrix would be improved. Please inbox me if you have specific questions about it.
How periodically I need to get your service for PageSpeed and Shopify store optimization?
It's a great question! My Shopify website speed up and optimization techniques will last forever and this would be onetime unless you make changes in theme, or install apps. Adding more content should be fine, but that should follow the best practices of SEO. Results might vary for content change.
My Shopify website has a heavy load of images and apps. Do you ensure 90+ PageSpeed?
No worries. Please send me the Shopify store website before ordering; I'll analyze your store and recommend what package should go with for your site. How is PageSpeed and Shopify Store Optimization associated with each other?
Shopify uses google PageSpeed insights to calculate the speed score and sometimes it doesn't update immediately. Fixing Shopify store speed is aligned to optimization however, sometimes it takes a couple of days to update the real score. You can contact me back if you see any challenges, of course.
