I work with recognised lighting codes set by local authorities and international organisations including CIE, ISO, EN, IES, AS, AS NZS, BS, and project specific standards. My designs address average illuminance, uniformity, glare, and obtrusive light control such as spill and boundary limits. What do you need to start the lighting design?
For the street and road lighting, it is important to know the width of road segments available in your requirement. As an example, if we consider a highway there are many road segments such as; 1. Roadways 2. Median 3. Lay-Bys 4. Emergency Lane 5. Bicycle Lane 6. Side Walks 7. Grass Strip
What is the maximum distance of road you can design the lighting plan?
There are no distance limitations for a road lighting design. Basically, I divide the complete road plan into straight road segments and curve road segments. Then I plan a 1 km distance straight road segment and apply the same result to all straight segments. The same procedure applies to curves.
